Glen D. Huey - Learning Finishing

This morning Im putting the finishing touches on our new DVD, Finishes that Pop with Glen D. Huey.

Glen speaks of finishing in passing, but never in detail, in the shop. Ive gotten the feeling that for him, finishing is either something that isnt too serious , or is just so second-nature that it doesnt require much discussion. It’s more of both. I worked on the DVD with him.

Through years of experience building period furniture, Glen has perfected the finishing process. Because he was for a long-time a professional furniture maker, he needed a technique that was reliable, repeatable and highly efficient. Its a piece of cake for him (now).

We sat down to examine his methods through articles like Finishing Formulas, and then we developed a simple and concise way to share his no-fail method.

This DVD was easy to edit compared with some of my previous projects. It is because the information has been laid out in a logical order. But best of all, its easy. Glen does go into great detail about how to mix your own fresh shellac, but he also tells you how to get the same results with pre-mixed shellac from the store. This is just one of many tricks he offers in the video.

Working with Glen on this DVD for the past few weeks has given me a fresh perspective on how to finish it. No longer is it a fantastical alchemy , it can be a fun, easy and repeatable experience.
